4 September 2019

Entries for the Misset Horeca Terrace Top 100 2020 are open again! During this annual ranking, Dutch terraces are assessed by an expert jury. By participating in this programme, you, as a hospitality entrepreneur, will get tools to get even more out of your terrace and offer your guests the ultimate terrace experience. But how do you end up high in the Terrace Top 100? Sit & Heat gives you five tips to prepare for the jury process.

1. Hospitality at one.

Hammer the importance of hospitality with your staff. After all, a satisfied guest is the best advertisement for your hospitality business. Therefore, train your staff on hospitality and make sure they serve in a friendly manner, communicate well, look your guests in the eye and show interest. Always try to exceed your guests' expectations.

2 . Offer something extra.

There are many terraces these days, to stand out you sometimes have to try a little harder and have something to be different. Take the example of restaurant De Firma in Nijmegen, they are at 32nd place in the Terrace Top 100. The jury said: 'The sofas are upholstered with cushions that include heating, nice!' Thanks to the heated cushions of Sit & Heat The Firm offers an extra piece of service. Moreover, the heated cushions are energy-efficient and therefore environmentally friendly. This leaves a positive impression on both your guests and the jury.

3. Offer a top-notch experience, even in the off-season.

Furthermore, it is important to also provide a top-notch experience at times when you are not expecting extreme crowds. So in spring, be prepared for crowds and in April, make sure the terrace looks neat with flowers and a menu on the table.

4. Bring the bill as soon as possible.

The moment a guest asks for the bill, it is a sign that he or she is eager to leave. So then bring the bill as soon as possible and don't go and do something else. Moreover, checkout is subconsciously a psychological pain point. After all, guests have to pay so keep this short.

5. Be creative and think ahead.

The expert jury reported that one terrace handed out small bottles of sunscreen last year. They also saw that grandma got two extra biscuits with her coffee for her grandchildren. Think ahead and be considerate to your guests. Creativity is also something the judges noticed. Sugary drinks are drunk less these days. For instance, be creative with sparkling water. Thus, there are many different ways to creatively stand out from the rest.

Would you also like to offer your guests that little bit extra by means of warm cushions on your terrace? No less than 160 successful hospitality entrepreneurs have preceded you. Among others, we are at Harrods (Champagne Bar) in London, De Firma in Nijmegen (32nd place in the Terras Top 100) and Proeflokaal Goesting (1st place in the Cafe Top 100 Audience Award).
