From 9 January to 12 January, the Horecava was once again on our agenda. This year's theme was 'taste the future'. Over 65,000 hospitality professionals, various professional competitions, award ceremonies and hospitality events. As participants, we can look back with satisfaction on a successful fair and would like to thank you for all the positive reactions.

Position 1,641

Visitors were able to experience Sit & Heat at three different locations this year. In collaboration with Soullmate, we were on hand at our stand to share our story.

Koninklijke Horeca Nederland

The state of Koninklijke Horeca Nederland was equipped with white patio chairs topped with the battery version of Sit & Heat. Warm buttocks for all members!

The barbecue square

The furniture of the Soullmate Event Truck, the stretch tent, our Sit & Heat cushions and all the barbecues around it created an atmospheric picture. Visitors could enjoy and taste the delicious snacks made by the various participants. A beautiful entrance at the main entrance!

Taste the future! Horecava 2017's theme is perfectly in line with Sit & Heat. Experience, innovation and sustainability are some of the key pillars that will receive plenty of attention this year. How do you create special experiences that stick? What opportunities do new technologies offer? And how can you make sustainability profitable'. Take a seat...Sit & Heat will give you the answer.

A new experience in hospitality

"Many people don't believe it: 'heated pillows!? Really!?', they then say. Then when they sit down, they think it's brilliant! I'm sure they will share this experience at home". Dirk van de Voort (Tapasbar de Markt in Breda) enthuses. In 2010, Sit & Heat exhibited its first prototype at the Horecava with this innovative and comfortable method of terrace heating. Sit & Heat has since been installed on various terraces throughout the Netherlands. For the guests there, Sit & Heat has proved to be a completely new experience.

Sustainability as a lifestyle

Sustainability has long since ceased to be a trend. It is a lifestyle or even a condition, also confirm Misset Horeca. We certainly experience this with Sit & Heat as well. Of course, partly due to the theme 'taste the future', we hope to heat even more terraces in an energy-efficient way in 2017. Sit & Heat only heats when someone is sitting on the cushion and the energy consumption is only 15 to 40 watts per seat. A lot more environmentally friendly (ánd cheaper) than other patio heaters, in other words!

Really trying it out!

This year, you can experience Sit & Heat in several places. You will find our cushions at the stand of the Koninklijke Horeca Nederland and on the barbecue square at the main entrance. Want to know what Sit & Heat can bring specifically for you? Then visit our own stand: No 1,641. We are ready to brainstorm how you can fully customise our heated cushions to the look of your terrace.

Nijmegen, 6 December 2016 - Office temperature can affect work presentations for working people in the Netherlands. Heating large rooms costs a lot of energy. Also, it is difficult to make every employee happy with the chosen temperature. The most effective solution can be found in an individual heat source. Office furnisher DESKO heats office chair users directly with the Sit & Heat system. Comfortable, innovative and energy-efficient!

Innovative and energy-efficient

An objective of DESKO is to be socially responsible and sustainable as an office furnisher. They like to take their clients into this world, for example through their cooperation with Sit & Heat. Sit & Heat consumes only 40Watt per seat. By heating from office chairs, the thermostat can be set lower in the colder months. This reduces CO2 emissions and can make substantial savings on energy costs.

Comfortable

The control knob allows the user to determine his or her own heat. Heating your torso ensures that your entire body stays at temperature. "The men in our office still walk in t-shirts, while I am almost always too cold," says an employee of SearchUser in Purmerend. "Thanks to Sit & Heat, I no longer have to sit against the heating and my plaids can stay at home."

Johannes owns pancake house De Duivelsberg. He preserves the rich history of the business and the nature reserve in various ways. "Come, I'll show you," Johannes exclaims enthusiastically. Using a photo wallpaper, he tells about De Duivelsberg; about how the area was originally German territory, about the only area held by the Netherlands after World War II, how the Forestry Commission became the owner in 1963 and about the start of the current pancake restaurant under his parents' leadership.

Relaxation mode

Johannes himself also grew up in the wooded surroundings of De Duivelsberg. In 1988, Johannes became co-owner of the pancake house. After a few years, he felt like a new challenge and started an establishment in the centre of Nijmegen together with his parents. His sister joins the company, but after a few years they split up anyway. Johannes will focus entirely on De Duivelsberg after all. "That's where my roots are. That has to do with the style. I feel that people come here more in the relaxation mode".
"I like to handle our raw materials sustainably"

Renew with the same experience

Since Johannes regained sole focus on pancake house De Duivelsberg, he has always been busy with various expansions. "The conservatory, the kitchen, the new parasols and, for example, the Sit & Heat cushions," Johannes says. "I am often told that nothing has changed here, when in fact all sorts of things have changed! The experience we apparently give guests remains the same. I like that," says Johannes. "In the afternoon, I often go for a half-hour walk with the dogs. That's a moment of reflection, where I take pen and paper with me and on my return have my 'to do' list ready again".

Nice addition to hospitality

"One of the reasons why I chose Sit & Heat is that I like to be sustainable with the resources we have," says Johannes. Understandable too, given the beautiful wooded area he sits in. "For example, I also work with regional products. Because products from the region are a lot fresher; fewer intermediate links, less waste and less transport." "Sit & Heat is a nice addition to hospitality within the hospitality industry. You engage people to the product, you talk about it and then ask about their experience with it. They like that"!"I always had the ideal of having a business with an informal atmosphere. An establishment where you can eat good food, drink good wines ánd get good service," says Elroy, owner of Bistro Flores. "An establishment where people are out of their daily lives for a while, but are pulled out of their rut for a while. So that they report feeling like they are on holiday. I think that's a wonderful compliment".

The beginning

"After I finished the event management course in Utrecht, I had an office job. Nothing for me! I needed hectic activity in my life," Elroy says. "I've found that now, though. The combination of business and hospitality, striving to make sure people have a great evening and getting the rush out of it... That's nice!"
"The cushions have a huge 'wow' effect!"

The courtyard garden

Since one April, Bistro Flores has had a canopy over its popular courtyard garden. "Through the canopy, I can offer more quality and more space. Bistro Flores is known for being a place where you can sit comfortably, even if you have to wait a while for a table. Sit & Heat's cushions make a modest contribution to this.

A Wow effect

Elroy does not have the Sit & Heat cushions on the chairs by default. He uses them at times when people are cold. For example, when the front door opens and closes. "I don't tell them beforehand that they will get warm, but then say, 'just wait, I'll try some'. Then people are incredibly pleasantly surprised. The cushions have a huge 'wow' effect"!

Den Bosch 4 October - People nowadays prefer to be outside 365 days a year. Enough reason for catering entrepreneurs to offer a comfortable heated winter terrace. Especially if this can be done in an energy-efficient and sustainable way. So does Nathalie Salameh, owner of Mangerie 't Vervolg in Den Bosch: "with the Sit & Heat heated cushions, I offer a piece of extra service in an innovative way".

Mangerie 't Vervolg

The terrace of Mangerie 't Vervolg is located on Fonteinplein in Den Bosch. "Around the terrace it is always pleasantly busy with shopping passers-by," says Nathalie. "Sit & Heat in combination with the canopy creates a pleasantly warm and cosy winter terrace. Inside and outside you can enjoy French cuisine".

Energy-efficient patio heating

By using Sit & Heat, energy is no longer lost to the outside air. Users insulate heat when they sit on the cushion. Not only does this save energy, but it also increases comfort. Sit & Heat cushions actually heat the users' torso. This part of the body contains the organs and, as a result, users experience an overall feeling of warmth.

The colder months are upon us again. Temperatures slowly drop and it gets dark faster again. A warm and cosy winter terrace can greatly increase sales during this period! But how do you do it?

Record high

CBS recently announced that the hospitality turnover in the Netherlands is at a record high! This strong growth has increased the importance of the hospitality industry to the Dutch economy in recent years. According to Entree Magazine, hospitality, creativity and willingness to invest are the keys to success! This is how positive developments and innovations are created. We would like to describe why Sit & Heat can ensure success on your winter terrace.

Hospitality

A while ago, Radboud Bergevoet, editor-in-chief of Misset Horeca, wrote a column about his experience with Sit & Heat at the Blonde Pater in Nijmegen. "Could I ever get used to a chair-heated terrace again? Instant luxury is an addictive drug". A piece of extra service and hospitality to guests.

Creativity

For proper warmth on a terrace, gas or electric heaters are mainly used. Unfortunately, a lot of energy is lost to the outside air in this process. Heating users directly is not only more energy-efficient, but also a surprising and new experience for many guests. The warm appearance of heaters can be compensated by orange LED lighting.

Willingness to invest

In January, the SRA hospitality scan revealed that hospitality entrepreneurs' money supply is opening up again. Like consumers, the majority of entrepreneurs want to spend more money. "I notice that investments in the terrace are generating bigger revenues," says Tapasbar de Markt in Breda. "So does the effect of the Sit & Heat cushions." The investment in Sit & Heat is recoverable on energy costs. In the long run, this makes for an extra gift at every end of the year! What will you invest in this year?

In 2012, Sit & Heat started developing the idea at the entrepreneurial community CVJO in Nijmegen, now called Start-up Nijmegen. A place where young entrepreneurs work together, learn from each other and use each other's networks. A fun and creative environment opposite the railway station.

Growth

Sit & Heat's team grew, creating the need for its own workspace. After two years of CVJO, Sit & Heat moved to the business park in Wijchen. Here Sit & Heat had its own office space with storage, to assemble, check and test products.

New location

After three years of being based at the Wijchen business park, Sit & Heat is ready for something new. During its search, Sit & Heat ends up at Novio Tech Campus in Nijmegen. This is it! The old CVJO atmosphere combined with plenty of opportunities for growth. A collective building full of inspiring companies. A place where knowledge, business and innovation come together. A place equipped with modern meeting rooms and meet & greet spaces for events. A place where we can expand even further!

Our new address is Transistorweg 7 in Nijmegen. Come and take a look.

"What do I enjoy doing most myself? Yes that is setting up and working out new things," says Dirk van de Voort, owner of Tapasbar de Markt in Breda. Dirk is a true entrepreneur who loves innovation. "You are always changing too" is something Dirk often hears. "Sometimes people also doubt those changes. Me too. But then when your guests end up being happy about it... That's what gives me energy!"

Continue to grow

Meanwhile, Dirk has been the owner of Tapasbar de Markt in Breda for two years. Inside it is small, but outside he has a large terrace with a view of the church and over the large Market Square. That's why Dirk is interested in getting the most out of his terrace: "By adding extra warmth and comfort to my terrace, I increase my seating capacity in winter," he says. After two years, there is already huge growth in the tapas bar's terrace. "For the time being, I want to keep growing. I notice that the investments in the terrace are generating bigger revenues," Dirk says. "Next year we will start working on windbreaks, another new challenge."

People don't believe it

For several months now, cushions from Sit & Heat have been on Dirk's terrace. "By using my heaters less, I hope to eventually make substantial savings on energy costs", he says, adding, "I read a column by Radboud Bergevoet in the Misset horeca. He talked about how Sit & Heat provides a piece of service and hospitality to guests. This made you stick around. And the reactions are very nice to hear. Many people don't believe it: 'Heated cushions!? Really!", they will say. Then when they sit down, they think it's brilliant! I'm sure they will share this experience at home".

Sit & Heat's heating system can be applied to or in garden furniture in more and more ways. For example, the B&B outdoor collection can be upgraded with Sit & Heat and if you already have a garden set, you can easily design your own heated cushions with Nofruit.

B&B Outdoor

Recently, Sit & Heat has been added as an extra option to B&B Outdoor's garden furniture collection. Users are enthusiastic! "We had our B&B Outdoor garden furniture upgraded with Sit & Heat. Lovely to sit outside longer in the evenings. Especially the heat in the back is very nice," Aldus Jolanda Aalders. The B&B Outdoor collection is produced in the Netherlands and is available in various garden furniture shops obtainable.

Online made-to-measure cushions

At Nofruit you can design and put together your own seating area online. You create your own custom-made cushions with the additional option of heating by Sit & Heat.
