With 4,329 votes, Proeflokaal Goesting in Venray won the Public Award of the Café Top 100. This ranking is based on votes from guests. It showed that Proeflokaal Goesting was by far the favourite. But what makes Proeflokaal Goesting the crowd pleaser? Sit & Heat found out for you.
Every year, the Café Top 100 is organised by Misset Horeca. The expert jury judges on hospitality, presentation, hygiene, product handling, craftsmanship, management and entrepreneurship, among other things. Based on mystery visits, an independent jury assesses the ranking of the best cafes in the Netherlands. Cafés can also win the Public Award, just like Proeflokaal Goesting. Here, guests vote for their favourite café in the Netherlands.
Using professional videos on Facebook, Goesting managed to attract votes. They made playful videos with funny texts that got guests involved with the café. Involvement was created by informing fans of the intermediate score and giving employees a leading role in the appeals.
Goesting offers 500 beers, 24 wines, 20 whiskies and several gins to their guests. This is complemented by an assortment of special bites that delightfully complement their drinks. Discovering new flavours is key. With the motto discover, experience and enjoy in their mind, they ensure that every guest leaves the table with a true experience. It's to whet your appetite!
To complete the experience both inside and outside, Proeflokaal Goesting has had heated cushions on their terrace since a few weeks. Thanks to these cushions, guests can still enjoy special beer and snacks on the outdoor terrace during the winter months. This gives a warm and cosy feeling, which fits Goesting's concept perfectly. Sit & Heat's heat pads are the new way of heating the terrace without heating up the outside air (and thus the earth). Owner Gijs Schapendonk of Proeflokaal Goesting comments: "Since the start of Goesting, we have been constantly looking for new ways to improve our guests' experience. Through a heated terrace, we offer our guests something extra and try to exceed our guests' expectations."

What once started as a sustainable idea is now in more than 150 hospitality businesses in the Netherlands. Sit & Heat's heat cushions are the new way of heating terraces. And without heating up the air outside (and thus the earth). The owners of Papa Eatalia also thought this was a good idea. Thanks to a project of the municipality, they were able to purchase the environmentally friendly solution.
"We want to give guests a warm feeling," Killian says, "That is our top priority. And that manifests itself in everything. For example, in the shared dining concept, where you share small dishes together. Sitting around the table together and tasting what Italian cuisine is all about. Italian cuisine is very diverse and we like to show this. Pastas, meat, fish, you can basically do anything. The concept resembles Spanish tapas, only executed in the Italian way."
The owners also like to literally make their guests feel warm. Killian: "Thanks to a project by the municipality of The Hague, we were able to invest in cushions that warm your buttocks and back, keeping the whole body warm. Instead of traditional patio heaters, we now have Sit & Heat. It fits in nicely with our concept in which we want to offer just that little bit different from other catering establishments. Ultimately, you offer extra comfort, even in winter. When people sit on the cushions, they talk about it. We want that! Positive advertising is the best advertising there is."
Do you want to give your guests a warm feeling too? Feel free to contact us or take a look at this page for more information.
Did you know that 100 hours of patio heating with a heater on the highest setting uses as much electricity as 350 washes? Oops! We thought so too. In addition, lawnmowers, garden lights and pond pumps are big energy guzzlers. And this not only costs a lot of money, but is also very bad for the environment. Keep your garden green in the long run by saving energy with the following tips:
"People should come here for the cosiness of the old days," says Kees, owner Bistro Tante Pietje in Den Bosch. "We are 15 years later still in the same atmosphere as 15 years ago, yet with many new elements. I take it as a compliment that people say we are renewing, when in fact they don't really know what has changed. The experience remains the same, which is nice".
In 2002, Kees took over Bistro Tante Pietje and thus started his first own business. "In the beginning, I never wanted to miss a day," says Kees. "As a result, I became the face of the business". Meanwhile, Kees is also co-owner of two other catering businesses. At these businesses, Kees has been given a different role, behind the scenes. Unlike at Bistro Tante Pietje, there he is still on the shop floor almost every day himself. "I continue to enjoy being a host, which I do with love and pleasure. I don't see that as work, no matter how long the evening lasts," Kees says.
"I think everything together makes Bistro Tante Pietje special in Den Bosch," says Kees. "When you come here and you eat well, you have nice service at the table, you find the atmosphere cosy and it buzzes nicely... then I think you come back. All those factors have to be right. The other day I received messages from several people saying that the best advertisement for Tante Pietje had just been made. Gerard Joling told me during his performance in the Brabanthallen that he always eats so well at Tante Pietje in Den Bosch. That's bold. That's all to do with gifting".

Atlant likes to work on improvements. For the quality of life of the people it supports but also for sustainable developments. This is why Atlant has started using heat pads to investigate whether this can have a positive effect on the well-being of the residents and staff while saving on energy costs.
With the ambition to create awareness on sustainability, Atlant started investing in sustainable solutions in 2016. For example, solar panels, composting machines and charging stations have been installed at various locations. This year, heating large spaces will be addressed. Because within a care institution, how can you offer everyone the right temperature, in a comfortable and as energy-efficient way as possible?
Older people like to have the heating set a degree higher. While for employees it is sometimes more pleasant to work in a lower temperature. To ensure that Atlant meets the wishes of clients and employees, Atlant is starting to heat through direct contact with the heat source. A pleasant way of heating, allowing the thermostat to be set a few degrees lower. This, of course, also has benefits for energy costs.
Sit & Heat's heated cushions consume only 40Watt per seat and are equipped with a sensor. The cushions heat from the seat and from the back. By heating the torso, your entire body stays at temperature. The cushions have a control button that allows clients to decide for themselves how warm they want it to be.
This summer, you can enjoy yourself until late at night at Pier 32 in The Hague. While enjoying live music and a good beer on tap, you will be totally comfortable on Sit & Heat's heated cushions. Whereas many opt for electric or gas heaters, Pier 32 takes a more sustainable approach. Because you insulate the heat, no heat is lost to the strong wind on the beach.
As a beach pavilion, Pier 32 has a first with Sit & Heat. The energy-efficient patio heating solution uses only 40Watt per seat and fits well with the beach pavilion's sustainable image. As such, Pier 32 also has the Green Key seal of approval and has been nominated for the Gaia Green Awards 2017. Companies with a Green Key seal of approval do all they can to save the environment without compromising on comfort and quality.Â
